Fleetwood Construction

Because our homes have to meet HUD standards, they often exceed local codes for site-built homes. For example, HUD was quicker than most local governmental housing agencies to make special requirements for manufactured homes in coastal regions. So a Fleetwood home will do a better job of weathering a hurricane than many site-built homes.

For that matter, a Fleetwood home may do a better job weathering just about any kind of weather. Our buyers often see dramatic savings on energy bills after they move into their Fleetwood homes.

Of course, considering how much insulation we go through, you'd almost expect that.

He's worked on custom homes.
He bought a Fleetwood Home.

Wes Gnile sits on the porch of his Fleetwood home, set on 10 acres in the Sacramento Valley, and looks up to the Sierra foothills: "We couldn't have built a comparable home for what we paid for this home."

Wes, a licensed electrical contractor, explains that he and wife Beth looked at all the options, including other manufactured home builders. "For the money there was no comparison."

He says he appreciates the structural integrity Fleetwood builds into its homes. But construction quality isn't the only factor he looked for. "Finish is the important thing. How it looks when it's done."

"And we're pretty picky people."

Home Construction Overview:

construction2.gif (7135 bytes) Steel cross members and outriggers are welded to massive steel I-beams to form the base frame, which has been specially engineered to handle the weight of the home.
construction3.gif (8016 bytes) Over the base frame, 2" x 6" floor joists are laid. Insulation and heat ducts are installed and the plumbing is begun.
construction4.gif (8180 bytes) Then the wood sub-floor is both fastened and glued to the floor joists.
construction5.gif (8624 bytes) Each step is closely inspected.
construction6.gif (8066 bytes) While the frame is being built, other workers are building the walls. Like the sub-floor, the sheetrock isn't merely nailed to the studs, it's also glued.
construction7.gif (7750 bytes) After the walls are installed on the floor, truss rafters for the roof are attached and plenty of high-grade attic insulation is blown in. The roof is sheathed, covered with roofing paper and tarred three feet up from the edge for extra protection and a good seal. The roof is then shingled.
construction8.gif (11266 bytes) During this phase, the interior is being finished. Custom cabinetry from Fleetwood's industry-leading cabinet shop is installed.
construction9.gif (8819 bytes) Also at this time, the siding is mounted and windows set in place.
construction10.gif (8304 bytes) The pieces of a multi-section home are brought together to make sure that walls, seams and patterns match up. After a final inspection, the home is prepared for transport. And there you have it. Another carefully crafted Fleetwood home.
